EARRINGS
The
shapes and styles of earrings are infinite: dangles,
chandeliers, hoops, studs, posts, button, round, oblong,
square, heart, etc. The size of the earring is very
important to show your face to the world. The larger the
earrings, the more noticeable they will be and could bring
out your fantastic features or point out your flaws.
Earrings should be chosen carefully as they are probably the
most important. They can reflect light and flattering color
onto your face.
First,
let's talk about your height. If you are under 5'4" tall,
your earrings should be styles that sweep up and pull the
viewer's eye up. Full figured petite women look fantastic in
earrings that have sharp geometric shapes. If you are 5'4" -
5'7", you lucky girl! Your earring choices are unlimited.
You should still consider face shape and hairstyle as
discussed below, but any earring length works well with this
height. If you are over 5'7", there is normally lots of
space between your ear lobe and shoulder and thus, long
dangle earrings will be flattering on you. You can also wear
any shape earrings, but avoid small, tiny button earrings
like the plague! These may look lost on you.
Now let's
talk about face shape. The oval face likes button, hoop,
triangular and round earrings. Dangle earrings that are not
too long also look great. Look for earrings that move up the
ear. The round face looks wonderful in square, oblong,
rectangular, dangle, elongated and angular designed
earrings. All of these types of earrings draw the viewer's
attention down instead of around. The rectangular or oblong
face needs earrings that add width and if you have a strong
jaw, long, straight earrings will often minimize this
appearance.
NECKLACES
When you
buy a necklace, make sure you
know your neck size so that you can get a good fit.
Don't forget that when you add a pendant to a necklace, the
end result will be a much longer length. You don't want your
pendant getting lost inside your button down shirt! Common
necklace lengths are as follows: Collar (12"-13", usually
made up of three or more strands and lie snugly on the
middle of the neck), Choker (14"-16", the most classic and
versatile of all the single strand lengths), Princess
(17"-19", perfect necklace for a pendant), Matinee (20"-24",
good choice for casual or business dressing), Opera
(28"-34", great for high or crew necklines and can be
doubled to wear as a two strand choker), and Rope or Lariat
(Over 45", very elegant and dangerously sexy).
In
general, if you are large breasted, you should steer clear
of necklaces that are more than 22" in length. Any longer
and the necklace may puddle right where you don't want it
to. Also, very long thin chains look nice on flat chest
girls. If you are under 5'4" tall, collar-length or longer
necklaces look best on you. "V" shaped styles and ones that
fall below the breast area and above the waist will also
make you look taller.
If you
are 5'4"-5'7", again you are a lucky girl! You can wear
necklaces of any length, but if you are full figured, you
should not wear necklaces that lay on the breast line. If
you are over 5'7", you can wear almost any length. However,
if you are thin and tall, a choker will cut the line of your
neck and make you appear shorter.
The oval
face likes any shape necklace - lucky you! The round face
likes necklaces that are long - 28" to 32". The heart
shaped face loves choker necklaces because they soften and
diminish the sharp angle of your chin. The rectangular and
oblong face likes high choker necklaces because they reduce
the length of the face. Also, a 16" or 18" necklace that is
shaped like a "U" will flatter this face.
